BLACK GIRLS WHO PAINT (BGWP) presented Femininity Defined, an online group exhibition examining divine femininity independent of the female body. This exhibition challenged the western framing of femininity, whereas femininity is commonly defined by adherence to beauty standards and societal gender roles while masculinity is commonly defined by one's attributes and presence. With less emphasis on bodily identifiers, the artists were free to explore what Divine Femininity looks like for them through their choice of materials. As a result, the audience was invited to think outside the box and further conceptualize femininity in their own everyday lives.
This five-week virtual exhibition from July 1 to August 8, 2021, included artworks for purchase PLUS online programming, including a private viewing, artist talks, studio visits and more!
