East African, from Eritrea based in Norway. Inspired by tradition, culture
Wegahta Tsehaye is a self-taught painter based in Norway. She was born and raised in Eritrea, Asmara. She is a single mother, works as a medical secretary and French teacher. She incorporates acrylic bright colours, mandala details and traditional clothing prints. With both of her parents and her big sister Hermon, she has grown up under a super supportive family her entire life. After she faced her dad’s and sister’s loss, she had to immigrate because of social and political issues from her country. She decided to get back to painting in honor of her sister. Her goal is to tell a story, using her art as her voice and encourage black women who have been through a lot.
