Atlanta-based artist exploring identity and femininity through artmaking
Danae Antoine is an interdisciplinary artist located in Atlanta, Georgia. She is currently pursuing a BFA at Georgia State University. Through the use of aged and larger body types and unconventional self-imagery, Danae Antoine’s work brings to light an unspoken part of femininity. Through making art, she is rebuilding my identity, and giving herself a new narrative. Danae references the lives and experiences of women around her who have marginalized voices in popular culture and the fleeting nature of youth. Danae’s art serves to challenge and confront the viewer to reevaluate their lives and those around them. Through her art, she creates a small window into my vision, which communicates the things she struggles to articulate. Danae prefers using traditional methods of drawing, painting, and printmaking to convey her message. Drawing and painting is her intended discipline because it affords me the freedom to experiment and challenge myself. The process of creating itself can be visceral and emotive, not only capturing the image but the passion behind the piece.
