L. Wallace is a contemporary artist who paints mainly in figurative and expressionist styles. She was born and raised in Santa Clara, California and now lives in Oregon. She’s always had an interest in the arts - she studied theatre at the University of California, Irvine and worked as a professional ballroom dancer prior to pursuing her career as a visual artist.
Her inspiration is rooted in her desire to understand where she comes from; she was born into a multiracial family with little connection to her extended family. Art has become an opportunity to explore the totality of her being – it reflects her immediate emotional response to her environment, her longing for the relationships she hasn’t yet experienced, and an imagining of the lived experiences of the ancestors she never got to meet. She often uses rich colors, texture, and is pushing herself into more realistic interpretations of the subjects she paints.
