Artist based on Moreno Valley, CA who specializes in patterns and portraits
Leilaa of leilaacreates.com is a California born pop artist who creates vibrant colored patterned paintings. Her portrait styles are defined by bold patterns and dynamic strokes of texture and color.
She grew up in upstate, NY where as a child she received awards for her artwork. From a young age, art was an integral part of her life. She earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts and Bachelor of Arts in French studies from Andrews University in Berrien Springs, MI. During that time she spent 2 months in Florence, Italy learning the language, dance, and traditional ceramic methods. She went on to pursue a Master's in Speech Language Pathology which she continues to practice today.
In 2012 she created a series of 50 portraits for a Karen refugee community in Albany, NY. She went on to co-develop an art camp for young girls which highlighted female artists across various cultural groups. She has since collaborated with local artists in Benton Harbor, MI to complete a mural of historical Black figures at the Art & Communication Academy. In addition, she completed six large scale illustrations for writer and filmmaker Rufaro Musvosvi’s show, The Dark Matter Experience, which debuted at South Bend Civil Rights Heritage Center in fall of 2018 and has gone on to be featured in the second Dark Matter Experience showcased at South Bend Civic Theater. In the last year, she has participated in several live painting events in southern, CA, mural projects, and developed a fabric design for the international fashion brand, Mabel Brempong to be released in Fall of 2020.
